Hong Kong Geopark and the Hong Kong Science Museum will jointly organize six public lectures from July to October 2021, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark and the opening of Earth Science Gallery in the Hong Kong Science Museum.Local geologists, history and culture experts, ecological experts, and community representatives of Hong Kong Geopark will be invited to introduce the features of Hong Kong Geopark from various perspectives, including geology, ecology, and local culture and history.   • All online talks are free to watch, No recording of any kind is allowed without permission from the organisers.
  • All lectures will be delivered in public live broadcast mode via Zoom, the number of participants is limited to 200. If the limit is reached, latecomers will need to wait until someone leaves the online meeting room.

Hexagonal Adventure Design Competition

JUN-JUL

Jointly organised with the Architectural Services Department, this competition will invite professionals related to building industry to design a viewing platform in Sai Kung East Country Park near Fa Shan overlooking Po Pin Chau, and associated hiking facilities. The winner may be invited to take part in the implementation and construction of the viewing platform and associated facilities. (Ended)

Geopark Community Fair

A wide range of activities will be staged in geopark communities (Ap Chau, Kat O, Hing Chuen Alliance, Kau Sai Village and Sam Mun Tsai) and at the High Island Reservoir East Dam in November and December. Activities will include guided tours, traditional cultural performances, various workshops and games. These events are ideal for the whole family. Visitors can enjoy an in-depth experience of Hong Kong Geopark’s unique geology, ecology and heritage.

Inclement Weather Arrangement

  • If Hong Kong Observatory hoists Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 or above, Black Rainstorm Warning Signal or Red Rainstorm Warning Signal on the activity days, and If the signal is lowered at or before 7am, the programme will proceed as scheduled. Otherwise, the progamme will be cancelled.

 

#Special Transport Arrangements

  • Ferry services at Ma Liu Shui Landing Steps no.3 to Kat O, Ap Chau and Lai Chi Wo will make special arrangements. Please pay attention to the offical announcement from Facebook of Best Sonic Industrial Limited.

 

Anti-epidemic Measures

The Community Fair is permitted in accordance with the Prevention and Control of Disease (Requirements and Directions) (Business and Premises) Regulation. (Cap. 599F). The organizer will implement essential anti-epidemic measures, and all participants are required to follow the following rules:

  • Wear a surgical masks and receive temperature check before taking part in the activities.
  • Register using "LeaveHomeSafe" mobile application or with their personal information.
  • Follow the social distancing rules as advised by the organizer.
The anti-epidemic measures are subject to the latest requirements from the Government.

 

Terms & Conditions

The organiser reserves the rights to change, suspend or cancel the activities without piror notice. In case of any dispute, the organiser reserves the right to make the final decision.

All personal information collected will be destroyed one month after the event.

Geopark Master

Starting on 8 November 2021, Geopark visitors can get a “Geopark Passport” from Geopark visitor centres and story rooms. Collect stamps in your geopark passport at 17 designated Geopark Master stamp-collection points during your visit. With the collection of 10 or more stamps, you can redeem a "Geopark Master" medal at one of the designated medal collection points starting from 1/1/2022 to 30/6/2022.

Photo and Video Competition

Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark is an engaging destination, with world-class geoheritage rubbing shoulders with vibrant ecological and cultural attractions. Geopark attractions are widely distributed across the Northeast New Territories and Sai Kung, and many are just a hop and a skip away from urban Hong Kong. They are ideal holiday destinations for sightseeing and connecting with nature.

The Hong Kong Geopark 10th Anniversary Photo and Video Competition aims to encourage visitors to discover the most beautiful and unique impressions of this global geopark through their camera lens, while appreciating its natural grandeur. To take part in the competition, simply share your geopark photos or videos on Instagram and add the specified hashtags. Act now! Hong Kong Geopark awaits your exploration.

 

  How to enroll

  Step 1. FOLLOW the Instagram account of Hong Kong Geopark @hongkonggeopark ;

  Step 2. Post your photos or videos of Hong Kong Geopark on your Instagram account (Set privacy to “open”; “Instagram Stories” will not be accepted) between 1 November and 31 December 2021.

  Step 3. Add three hashtags:
  • #location
  • #hongkongunescoglobalgeopark
  • #HKGP10competition


 
Important note:

1. The entry post must remain in your feed until 31 January 2022 for assessment by the organisers’ judging panel. Any entries removed on that day or earlier or set to “private” will not be considered.

2. Each contestant can submit three photos/videos through their Instagram account. No more than one award will be granted for the photos or videos.

3. All entries must be original creations of the contestants and must not have been marketed, published or submitted to any other photography contest before this competition.

4. Any entries involving borrowing, reproduction, counterfeiting or other forms of copyright infringement or related criminal offences will be disqualified. The contestants concerned will assume all legal liability, and the organizers will have no connection with any related legal disputes whatsoever.

Awards and Prizes

The judging panel will select 80 photos and 20 videos, for a total of 100 winning entries.
Each winner will be presented with a trophy and book vouchers worth HK$500.

 
Requirements for Entries

Photos or videos taken in Hong Kong Geopark. No restriction on the subject.

  • Photos
    1. Photo entries must present true objects or scenery. Brightness, contrast, colour saturation and cropping can be reasonably adjusted. Photomontages and entries processed with intensive after-treatment and added with special effects will not be accepted.
    2. Contestants must save full-size files of their photo entries. The organisers will request full-size files of the winning entries for exhibition purposes after publishing the competition results. The names and Instagram accounts of the winners will be displayed at the exhibition.
  • Videos
    1. The video entries should be from 30 to 60 seconds long.
    2. Contestants must save the original files of the video entries. The organisers will request the original files of winning entries for exhibition purposes after publishing the competition results. The names and Instagram accounts of the winners will be displayed at the exhibition.

    Judging Criteria

    1. Photography skills.
    2. Do the images and videos exemplify the geological, ecological or cultural features of Hong Kong Geopark? There will be a preference for entries that record special moments.
    3. Composition, aesthetics and creativity.

     
    Award Notification

    The list of winners will be published in January 2022 on the Hong Kong Geopark website and its Instagram page. Winners will also receive notification from Instagram.
     
    Notes

  • Contestants must not cause damage to the natural environment or disturb visitors, villagers or wildlife. They must follow the Country Parks Ordinance, the Wild Animals Protection Ordinance, the Marine Parks Ordinance and all associated legislation. Any entries taken using bad practices will be disqualified.
  • The organizers have the right to interpret, amend and supplement the rules and conditions of this competition without prior notice. They reserve the final right of decision over any dispute arising therefrom.
  • The decisions on competition results made by the judging panel and organizers will be final, to the exclusion of any challenge from contestants. There is no appeal mechanism. In case of any discrepancy between the Chinese and English versions of all terms and conditions contained herein, the Chinese version will prevail.
  • The organizers have the right of final decision on the event and award arrangements.
